John DeAndrea 1941 —

Biography

John De Andrea, American sculptor of the super-real nude figure, was born in Denver, Colorado on November 24, 1941. He studied at the University of Colorado, Boulder from 1961 to 1965 and in 1968 was an art assistant at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. He had his first one-man show at the O. K. Harris Gallery in New York in 1970.

He rapidly developed a style of casting and then painting fiber-glass or polyvinyl acetate sculptures of figures from life. The extreme verism of his work links it to Photorealism.  The sculptures are usually of one or two young, elegant and casually posed nude figures, usually female, as in "Dorothy" (1969-70; Aachen, Neue Gallery) and “Garnet” (1996).   "Untitled" (Studio Scene) (1977; Cologne, Mus. Ludwig), shows the artist and his model.

An important source for modern and contemporary American & European Art in East Hampton, New York & worldwide, Janet Lehr Fine Arts' spectacular wide-ranging inventory consists of unique paintings, drawings, large & small scale sculpture, monotypes, prints and photographs  by Ansel Adams, Milton Avery, Richard Avedon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Romare Bearden, Fernando Botero, Cartier-Bresson, Marc Chagall, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Willem De Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn, Thomas Eakins, Childe Hassam, David Hockney, Winslow Homer, Wolf Kahn, Jeff Koons, Fernand Leger, Roy Lichtenstein, Man Ray, Thomas Moran, Henry Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, Cindy Sherman, Charles Sheeler, Bert Stern, Alfred Stieglitz, Andy Warhol, Carleton E Watkins, Tom Wesselmann and Andrew Wyeth.
